Step 2: Apply The Models

How to Practice The Present Method in 4 Steps.

Learning how to be Present with The Present Method.

Step 1: Review The Models

We encourage customers to read and take in the models of Anxiety and Depression that The Present Method has provided.

Customers are then encouraged to apply the model in their own particular situation and see where they fit. This is important as their action plan is completely dependent upon their ability to identify what their needs might be. Their service provider can help them but the customer still has to do the bulk of the work. This is true because in order to regulate the self, the customer must be able to understand the self. Self-awareness is a key component of the process.

Step 3: Develop a Mental Health Plan.

Customers are then helped to develop an action plan for the week. At The Present Method, we avoid large, long-term plans as a person’s needs change from week-to-week. At the same time, we stay committed to themes that a person may need to work on. For example, a person may identify courage as something they need to work on for a particular week and in a given situation.

Courage may continue as something to work on for the following week in a completely different context. This process not only allows for specific problems to be resolved but encourages the client to make connections and generalize this theme of courage in other situations they may find themselves. Helping the customer make good decisions long after they’ve graduated from the program.

Customers are then helped to develop habits or routines that keep them physically healthy. This is important because a person’s physical health and mental health are closely related. If a person does not take care of themselves physically, it’s going to make it more difficult for them to make wise choices when it comes to their mental health and relationships with others.
